Art founded Walden in 1974.  From inception, Walden has consistently worked with Sprout Stage companies looking for mass markets.  Early in his career, Mr. Berliner led Walden’s investment in Printronix which was the first IPO for the pioneering investment banking firm Robertson Stephens and Company.  Art has led more than 100 investments in technology and consumer companies.  Exits include Gymboree, Natural Wonders, Eagle Hardware and Garden, Optical Specialties, Buca Di Beppo, and Lexicon, Codon, Macronetics, Nuclepore and Rensco, Food52 and TodayTix.  Other investments include Mode Media (formerly Glam), Bespoke Post, Gumps and meUndies.  Art co-founded Walden International and Walden Israel and successfully mentored independent teams who manage technology oriented funds in Asia and Israel respectively. Prior to Walden, Art had research, sales and Corporate Finance roles at Sutro & Company where he discovered his passion for working with high growth companies.

Art received a Bachelor and an MBA from the University of California at Berkeley.

Art is also passionate about collecting contemporary art.
